VC Maintains Standing at WSC #3 at Santa Barbara

The Ventura College men's and women's swimming and diving teams maintained their conference standings at the Western State Conference #3 meet hosted by Santa Barbara City College on Friday. The Pirate men placed second of four teams, paced by the strong performance in the diving competition while the VC women came in fourth place of the five competing teams, just points out of third place. Deon Crilly led the effort with first place finishes in the 1m and 3m diving competitions.

Crilly led VC sweeps in both men's diving competitions. Rawley Mathis came in second in the 1m competition and third in the 3m event while Izaiah Martinez won the silver in the 3m and claimed third in the 1m. 

Ary Martinez claimed Ventura's only other gold medal on the day, winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:40.46.

Kaitlin Reagan was second in the 50-yard freestyle and Alli Hopkins was third. Meanwhile Adrianna Bese claimed two third place finishes in the 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breast stroke, respectively. Gracelyn De La Cruz was third in the 200-yard back stroke. 

Anthony Amezcua won silver in the 1650-yard freestyle and Hunter Massey was third in the distance event. The Pirates' 400-yard medley relay team of Ethan Enquist, Kevin Smallwood, Marcel Hurtubise and Tobias Hynes was second place, as was the 400-yard relay team including Garrett Gallagher, Enquist, Jake Peters and Hynes.

Ventura next travels to the Pasadena Invitational on April 4 and 6.
