VC Men 12th, Women 17th After Day Two of State Championships

On the strength of a 10th place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay, and a ninth place finish for David Peterson in the 200-yard freestyle, the Pirates' men's swimming and diving team was 12th Friday with one day remaining at the CCCAA State Championships at East Los Angeles College.  The VC women stood in 17th place with Maria Petraitis earning the team's lone individual points on the day, to go along with the 800-yard freestyle relay team. 

Peterson earned the men's highest finish of the day in the 200 free, and the relay team of Thomas Bunker, Kaleb Rodarte, Derek Krzyski and Peterson was 10th in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Rodarte came in 11th in the 400-yard individual medley while Jack Burleigh was 15th in the 100-yard backstroke. Meanwhile, the 200-yard medley relay team of Burleigh, Rodarte, Krzyski and Jack Pickett finished in 15th place.

For the Pirate women, Petraitis had the lone individual points, finishing 15th in the 400-yard individual medley. Also, the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Brittany Oliver, Alejendra Medina, Sabrina Cherfane and Paige Treloar-Ballard came in 12th place.

The championships conclude on Saturday May 6 in Monterey Park at East Los Angeles College with preliminaries scheduled for 9:30 am and finals beginning at 4:00 pm.
