Pirate Swimmers Fare Well at Mt. SAC Invtational

The VC men's and women's swimming and diving teams took part in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational Friday.  VC accumulated 198.5 points with the men for their 10th place finish of 17 scoring teams while the women totaled 150 points for 10th out of 21 scoring teams.  The Pirates managed this while participating in one day of the two-day meet in Walnut. Jack Pickett led the men placing in the top-10 in three events while Maria Petraitis placed in the top-10 in four events for the women.

Pickett tied for first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.22 and was second and ninth in the 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard breast stroke, respectively. Deonn Crilly was third in the 1m diving competition and sixth in the 3m diving event.  Meanwhile, Jack Burleigh was seventh in the 50-yard backstroke, eighth in the 50-yard freestyle and ninth in the 100-yard backstroke. Other VC men placing in the top-10 included Kaleb Rodarte who finished sixth in the 50-yard breast stroke, David Peterson placed ninth in the 200-yard individual medley, Derek Krzyski was fourth in the 50-yard butterfly, and Thomas Bunker finished seventh in the 500-yard freestyle.

Petraitis came in ninth in the 50-yard breast stroke, ninth in the 100-yard individual medley and eighth in the 100-yard breast stroke. Paige Treloar-Ballard came in fourth in the 50-yard butterfly and sixth in the 100-yard fly while Kaitlyn Peters was third in the 50-yard breast stroke. Brittany Oliver placed eighth in the 500-yard freestyle and Alejendra Medina was 10th in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Pirates host the first Western State Conference Swim meet of the season on Friday March 3. Races are set to begin at 11:00 am at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
