Pirate Swimmers Show Well at WSC Swim #2

Ventura College men's and women's swim teams brought home first place finishes in WSC meet #2 at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
Ventura College men's and women's swim teams brought home first place finishes in WSC meet #2 at the Ventura Aquatic Center.

The Ventura College men's and women's swim team participated in the second Western State Conference swim meet of the season and showed well. Thomas Bunker was a first place finished in multiple events. James Heckman was first place finisher in a solo event and as part of a relay team. Cheyanne Irigoyen was a first place finisher as a solo racer and part of women's relay team.

The Pirate men's team was a winner in five different events on the day. VC was topped by Bunker who was a winner in the 1000 yard freestyle and then again in the 500 yard freestyle. Heckman won as part of the men's 200 yard individual medley relay team and brought home a solo win in the 200 yard backstroke. Austin Hammond was a first place finisher in the 200 yard butterfly for VC. Jack Pickett claimed a second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle for Ventura. Marcus Rodarte was a second place finisher in the 100 yard freestyle and 200 yard backstroke. Rodarte was a part of the Pirates 200 yard individual medley relay team with Heckman. 

On the women's side of the meet VC was a first place finisher in five events lead by the two wins for Irigoyen in the 400 yard freestyle relay and in the 100 yard freestyle. Delani Clark was also a two time first place finisher in the meet claiming wins in the 200 yard individual medley and 1000 yard freestyle. Paige Treloar-Ballard won the 50 yard freestyle race. VC picked up second place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle from Allison Olney who was also second in the 100 yard freestyle. Raquel Rodriguez in the 1000 yard freestyle race and in the 100 yard backstroke. Both, Treloar-Ballard and Rodriguez teamed with Allison Herman and Maria Petraitis to pick up a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. 

The Ventura College men's team was able to finish the day in first place. While the Ventura College women's team was also able to finish the day atop the standings for a sweep of the day for the Pirates.

Both teams will return to action on Friday Apr. 1 in San Luis Obispo for the WSC meet #3 at Cuesta College. The day is set to begin at 2:30 pm.
