Ongstad Adds to Medal Haul; VC Women on the Board at State

Mitchell Ongstad added a silver medal to his collection Friday at the CCCAA State Championships with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard backstroke.  The Pirate men were in sixth place following the day's events with one day remaining at the season finale.  The VC women, meanwhile, got on the board with a swim by Delani Clark.

Ongstad, who won the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday, turned in a time of 49.93 in the 100-yard backstroke final, good for second place.  Marcus Rodarte finished ninth in that event winning the consolation final in 52.55.  Chris Sands placed eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (50.48) and Austin Hammond earned points in the 200-yard freestyle.

VC's team of Ongstad, Kaleb Rodarte, Cesar Martins and Alec Kruse placed sixth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.84) while Kruse, Kaleb Rodarte, Marcus Rodarte and Hammond came in eighth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:05.63).

Clark turned in a 4:59.76 in the 400-yard individual medley to place eighth, earning the Pirates' first points of the meet.  Later, Raquel Rodriguez came in 15th in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.02).

VC's men had earned 174 points in the two days of the meet, trailing Golden West (387.5), Diablo Valley (320), Sierra (246.5), American River (216) and Riverside (190).  San Diego Mesa is seventh with 143 points.

The three-day meet concludes Saturday May 2 at East Los Angeles College.
