Pirate Swimmers Open at WSC Meet at Canyons

The Ventura College men's and women's swim teams opened up their 2015 competition schedule at the Western State Conference meet hosted by College of the canyons at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center Friday. VC produced three double winners in the meet, Delani Clark for the women and Mitchell Ongstad and Austin Hammond for the men.

Clark finished first in the 1,000 yard freestyle and 200 yard individual medley races. Allison Olney was runner up in the 100 yard freestyle and had a pair of thirds in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events. Raquel Rodriguez finished second in the 100 yard backstroke while Jessica Peace was second in the 100 yard breast stroke. Cheyanne Irigoyen came in thrid in the 200 yard individual medley.

Ongstad brought home gold in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races while Hammond was first in the 1,000 and 500 yard freestyle events.  Marcus Rodarte won the 100 yard backstroke while brother Kaleb Rodarte was first in the 200 yard individual medley.  Alec Kruse came in fastest in the 200 yard freestyle and second in the 100 yard free while Chris Sands was first in the 100 yard butterfly and second in the 1,000 yard freestyle.  VC's 200 yard medley relay team of Marcus Rodarte, Kaleb Rodarte, Cesar Martins and Ongstad also finished tops.

Ventura will travel to San Luis Obispo for the Cuesta Sprints Meet on Thursday March 5 and the Cuesta Invitational Friday and Saturday March 5 and 6.
