Pirate Softball Drops Narrow Home Decision to SBCC

The Ventura College softball team kept the game close Tuesday, but could not get anything going offensively in their 4-0 setback against Santa Barbara at the VC Softball Complex. Alexyss Campos and Chelsea Trejo each had hits for the Pirates Trejo also had a solid pitching effort, scattering nine hits over seven innings in keeping VC close to the Vaqueros.

Santa Barbara took the lead with a two-run third inning.

VC's best chance to score came in the bottom half of the fourth when they had the bases loaded with one out. Campos led off with a single, then Savanna Higgins reached first on a fielder's choice, moving Campos to second. After Jade Loeffler lines out to center, Trejo hit a bloop single to load the bases. Alyssa Jacinto followed with a fly ball out to right field before Campos was caught in a pickle between third and home after beginning to tag up after the catch. Campos was tagged out at home to end the Ventura threat.

SBCC added two more runs in the top of the seventh to set the final margin.

Ventura next hosts Los Angeles Pierce on Thursday April 4 at 2;30 pm.
