Ventura Softball Defeats Oxnard 6-3

It was a great day to have a great day for the Ventura College softball team as the Pirates defeated visiting Oxnard 6-3 Thursday. Alexyss Campos hit a sacrifice fly and an RBI triple to knock in four runs while Jennie Jacinto had a pair of hits, including a double, with two runs scored and a run batted in to lead VC to victory. Chelsea Trejo pitched a complete game, scattering eight hits and allowing three runs while striking out five for the Pirates.

Ventura got on the board with a three-run third inning. Victoria Rodriguez and Kiara Harrison led off with consecutive singles before J. Jacinto doubled home Rodriguez. Campos then popped up for a sacrifice fly scoring both Harrison and Jacinto for the 3-0 edge.

The Pirates followed that up with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Alyssa Jacinto reached base on an error and moved to second base to begin the frame. One out later Rodriguez hit an RBI single. With two outs, J. Jacinto singled before Campos knocked in two runs with a triple to put VC ahead 6-0.

The Condors scored twice in the top of the fifth with a two-out rally and plated another run in the top of the sixth to set the final margin.

Savanna Higgins also had a pair of hits on the day, including a triple, and two stolen bases.

VC next travels to Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria on Tuesday March 26.
