The Pirate softball team dropped a 9-2 decision at Santa Barbara Monday afternoon in Western State Conference play. Alyssa Jacinto recorded a pair of hits with a run batted in and Savanna Higgins had a hit, stole a base and scored a run in the setback. Jade Loeffler was 1-2 on the day with a pair of walks and an RBI.

The Vaqueros took the early edge with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and four more in the second.

The Pirates got on the board with one run in the top of the fourth. Higgins led off with a single and Loeffler followed with a walk. The two runners moved forward one base on a wild pitch, and one out later, A. Jacinto grounded out to score Higgins.

Ventura scored another run in the top of the fifth inning. Victoria Rodriguez led off the frame reaching first base on an error, and two outs later, Alexyss Campos was hit by a pitch. Higgins drew a walk to load the bases before Loeffler hit an RBI single to score Rodriguez.

Unfortunately, VC could not muster any more offense and SBCC scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to set the final 9-2 margin.

VC continues WSC play on Tuesday March 19 at Moorpark before returning home on Thursday March 21 against Oxnard. Both games are set to begin at 2:30 pm.
