The Ventura College softball team had a difficult trip to San Diego over the weekend, falling twice to San Diego Mesa on Friday before dropping a decision at Southwestern on Saturday. Savanna Higgins led the Pirates with four hits on the weekend, including a home run, and two runs scored with a run batted in. Alyssa Jacinto had three RBI in the three games for VC.

In the opener of a twin bill Friday, the Pirates fell to the Olympians 12-2.

Ventura got on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Jennie Jacinto led off with a single and was out at second when Raylene Reyes reached on a fielder's choice. Higgins followed with a walk and the two base runners moved ahead on a wild pitch. A. Jacinto followed with a two-RBI single.

Victoria Rodriguez and Alexyss Campos also recorded hits for Ventura in the effort.

The Pirates returned to action on Saturday at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, dropping a 14-2 decision.

Ventura took a 1-0 lead in their first at bat. J. Jacinto led off with a walk and moved to second on Campos' grounder to third. Higgins singles before A. Jacinto grounded out to score her sister.

Unfortunately, the advantage was short lived as the Jaguars answered with two runs in the bottom half of the column and plated 11 runs over the next two frames.

Higgins belted a solo home run to open the top of the fourth to set the final margin.

Trejo also had a pair of hits for Ventura.

The Pirate softball team travels to Cerritos on Tuesday Feb. 13 before finally coming home on Friday Feb. 16 to host Pasadena at 3:00 pm.
