Pirates Drop Narrow Decision at Santiago Canyon

The VC softball team is still searching for its breakthrough after a narrow 1-0 decision against Santiago Canyon Friday in Orange. Alyssa Jacinto had a pair of hits to lead Ventura at the plate while Chelsea Trejo allowed just three hits and one earned run over six innings of work in the circle to pick up the hard-luck loss.

The Pirates had their best cnace to score in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Haylie Lopez reached first on an error and Kiara Harrison followed with a walk. On out later Raylene Reyes singled to right field to load the bases. VC was unable to capitalize, however with a hard liner to third for the final out of the frame. 

Ventura also had a runner in scoring position in the fourth and sixth innings.

The Hawks scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the third.

VC is scheduled to host Citrus on Tuesday Feb. 6 at 1:00 pm, weather permitting. They travel to San Diego Mesa on Friday Feb. 9 for games against Desert and the host Olympians.
