Pirates Earn All-State and All-Region Awards

On the heels of the most successful season in decades for the Ventura College softball team, sophomores Ashlyn Flinchum  and Lauren Albrent have earned All-State honors and sophomore Isabel Gallegos earned All-Region accolades as chosen by the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association. Flinchum and Albrent earned the award at pitcher and third base, respectively, while Gallegos primarily played center field for VC this past season.

Flinchum, a St. Bonaventure High School product, led the CCCAA in strikeouts with 234 K's in 33 games, shattering Ventura's former school record of 175. A first team All-WSC honoree as a freshman, Flinchum was the Western State Conference Pitcher of the Year this season.  She had a 23-6 record in 2023, pitching 203.2 innings with a 1.94 earned run average, recording 8.12 punchouts per seven innings pitched.

Albrent, who twice earned WSC Most Valuable Player accolades, started at third base and ended the year first in the WSC in home runs, and second in batting average, hits, RBI and runs scored. The Buena High School alumna finished the season batting .442 with an OPS of 1.259. She was second in the state in triples (8) while finishing in the Top-10 in runs scored (46, 6th), home runs (9, 10th (tie)) and runs batted in (46, 10th (tie)).

Gallegos, a graduate of Foothill Tech High School, batted .390 this season for the Pirates with an OPS of 1.109. She was second on the team in doubles (8), home runs (5) and RBI (43). Gallegos was also a two-year All-WSC selection.

After winning the program's first WSC title since 2017, their first outright crown since 2012, with a 14-1 record, Ventura went on to post an overall mark of 31-10-1, advancing to the Super Regional round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs for just the second time in team history.
