Albrent Blasts Pirates Past Pasadena

VC sophomore Lauren Albrent blasted a three-run home run and had four runs batted in overall as the Pirate softball team cruised to a 6-1 win at Pasadena Monday in a non-conference make-up game. Ciana Garcia was 4-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI while Ashlyn Flinchum gave up three hits and one run while striking out nine to pick up the complete-game win.

Garcia led the game off with a single, and after Ahlyssa Guzman's sacrifice bunt, came around to score on Albrent's RBI double. 

Pasadena answered quickly, however, scoring once in the bottom half of the frame with a two-out RBI double to tie the game at 1-1.

Ventura (28-7-1) then took the lead for good with an unearned run in the top fo the fourth. Isabel Gallegos led off with a walk and moved to second when Jocelyn Ortega reached base on a fielder's choice and an error. Isabella Ayala had a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners and Flinchum reached base on a fielder's choice in which Gallegos was tagged out at home. Mia Guerrero then followed with a single to left field to score Ortega and put VC ahead 2-1.

The Pirates' fireworks came i the fifth inning. Garcia led off with a single to center and Guzman hit a base hit to left field. Albrent followed with a three-run home run, her ninth of the season.

VC added an insurance run in the sixth inning. Maggie Howe reached base on an error and scored when Garcia doubled to th e gap in left center field to set the final 6-1 margin.

Ventura closes out the regular season on Tuesday April 25 with a trip to Santa Maria to face ALlan Hancock College.
