The Pirate softball team only managed two hits on Tuesday against Cuesta. But that was enough to score one run as Ashlyn Flinchum outdueled her counterpart by yielding just one hit in Ventura's 1-0 win over the Cougars at the VC Softball Complex. Ahlyssa Guzman singled and scored while Isabella Ayala knocked in the game's only run with another base hit. Flinchum struck out 10 and walked one in her complete game shutout.

Guzman singled to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning for the Pirates (20-5-1, 8-0). Lauren Albrent followed with a walk and Jocelyn Ortega reached base on a fielder's choice in which Albrent was retired at second. Ayala then delivered the clutch single to knock in Guzman for the 1-0 VC advantage.

Flinchum handled the rest, getting Ventura through the final three frames to preserve the narrow victory.

VC next hosts Moorpark in a make-up game on Wednesday April 5 at 2:30 pm before finishing the season series with the Raiders on the road Thursday April 6.
