The Pirates' softball team claimed a pair of double-digit wins Wednesday, sweeping Victor Valley in a doubleheader, 12-1 and 11-0 at the VC Softball Complex. Lauren Albrent had five hits, including two home runs and a triple, with seven runs batted in and four runs scored in the double-dip to lead the way for VC (11-2-1, 2-0). Morgan Albertsen pitched the opener, scattering six hits and allowing one run with seven strikeouts. Mia Guerrero took to the circle in the nightcap, giving up five hits with five K's in the shutout.

Albrent had a two-RBI single and a three-run home run in the first inning of Wednesday's doubleheader. She also scored twice to account for half of Ventura's 12 runs in the frame. Isabella Ayala hit a two-run bomb and hit a two-RBI single for another four scores in the at-bat. Ahlyssa Guzman also singled twice with an RBI and two runs scored and Isabel Gallegos scored twice after reaching base on a walk and after being hit by a pitch, respectively.

The cushion was all Albertsen needed in the circle as she shut down the Rams attack.

The Pirates took a little while longer to get going in the day's second game. Guzman was hit by a pitch in the first and stole second, she then advanced to third and ultimately scored on a throwing error for a 1-0 Ventrua lead.

Albrent tripled to lead off the bottom of the third, and came home on Gallegos' sacrifice fly. Jocelyn Ortega then singled and moved to third on Ayala's double. Ashlyn Flinchum hit a sac fly to score Ortega, and Ayala came home on a passed ball for the 4-0 margin.

Ventura put the game away with a seven-run fourth. Guzman and Albrent led off with back-to-back homers before Ortega, Ayala and Flinchum loaded the bases on a HBP, error and fielder's choice. Guerrero and Alexis Carillo followed with consecutive RBI singles, and Ciana Garcia drew a walk for another Pirate score. Guzman then singled home another run and Albrent hit a sacrifice fly to set the final 11-0 margin.

VC is scheduled to host Pasadena City College on Saturday Feb. 25 at 12:30 pm.
