Late Score Sends Pirates to Victory

The VC softball team scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie, propelling them to victory over Moorpark Thursday. Isabella Ayala was 3-4 in the game, including a double, with one run scored and Ahlyssa Guzman had three hits and scored once. Ciana Garcia recorded a pair of runs batted in for the win and Lauren Albrent knocked out two hits and scored a run. Ashlyn Flinchum came on in relief in the fourth inning to record the win in the circle, striking out five Raiders in the process.

Moorpark scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to take the early lead.  The Pirates (9-2-1, 2-0) answered with a run in the third, and two more scores in the fourth for a 3-2 advantage. The Raiders then plated a tying run in the bottom half of the fourth to knot the score at 3-3, setting up the seventh-inning go-ahead score for VC.

Morgan Albertsen started the game in the pitcher's circle, throwing into the fourth inning, before yielding to Flinchum.

Albertsen was 1-1 at the plate, and Isabel Gallegos had a hit and a sacrifice fly with one RBI. Jocelyn Ortega also had a hit and batted in one run.

The Pirates will return home to face Santa Monica on Tuesday Feb. 22. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm against the Corsairs at the VC Softball Complex.
