VC Routs Santa Monica in Regular Season Finale

The Pirate softball team scored 12 runs in the top of the third inning in posting a 17-0 five-inning rout of Santa Monica in VC's regular season finale. Ahlyssa Guzman, Leanna De La Cruz, Ciana Garcia and Abby Strong batted in three runs each in the balanced offensive attack for Ventura (27-12, 10-2). STarting pitcher Kat Tafoya allowed a single hit while striking out six Corsairs and Morgan Albertsen finished the game in the pitcher's circle.

Guzman led the onslaught by hitting 3-4 with a pair of triples and a home run. De La Cruz was 3-3 with a double and Strong hit a pair of doubles. Garcia recorded a pair of singles. All four players had three RBI each.

Lauren Albrent hit her 12th home run of the season and also doubled and walked with an RBI while Isabel Gallegos had an RBI-double and a walk. 

Isabella Ayala doubled with one run batted in and Tafoya recorded an RBI single and a walk. Courtney Terrazas was 1-1 with a double for Ventura.

The Pirates finish alone in second place in the Western State Conference North Division and await their post-season fate. VC, ranked No. 9 in Southern California and No. 18 in the state could play an opening round playoff game on Tuesday May 3 or hope to be placed in a first round playoff series Friday and Saturday May 6 and 7.
