Softball Wins Fourth Straight as WSC Play Resumes

The Pirate softball team resumed Western State Conference play on Tuesday winning their fourth straight game with a 7-3 victory over Santa Barbara. Ciana Garcia had a hit, scored a run and batted in a run and Abby Strong had two RBI with a single and a walk. Lauren Albrent was 1-1 while knocking in a pair of runs and stealing a base. Morgan Albertsen pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and giving up three runs late to pick up the victory for VC (20-9, 4-1).

Ventura got off to a fast start against the Vaqueros. Ashley Perez led off with a single and stole second. Albrent walked Isabel Gallegos drew one-out walks before Garcia singled Perez home. Courtney Terrazas was hit by a pitch to score Albrent, then Strong hit a two-RBI single for a 4-0 VC advantage after an inning of play.

Perez then led off the second by reaching base on an error and Ahlyssa Guzman singled. Albrent then followed with a single to knock in both runners , moving to second on the throw in, and Gallegos singled home Albrent for a 7-0 margin.

That would be all that Albertsen needed in the circle. SBCC scored a pair of runs in the fifth and another in the sixth, but the Pirates were never threatened in the 7-3 win.

Ventura continues WSC play on Thursday March 31 hosting Santa Monica at 2:30 pm.
