The Ventura softball team dropped its first Western State Conference contest Tuesday afternoon 2-0 against visiting Moorpark. Abby Strong had the only hit in the game for the Pirates (16-8, 3-1).

The Raiders and Pirates both came into the game atop the WSC North standings with identical 3-0 records. Unfortunately for VC, Moorpark left alone on top of the table.

MC scored single runs in the third and sixth innings to set the final margin.

Meanwhile, the Ventura offense had a difficult time as they managed just the one hit in the game.

Ashlyn Flinchum started in the circle for VC and pitched into the sixth before being relieved by Kat Tafoya.

Ventura has little time to dwell on the defeat as they host the VC Spring Games beginning Friday March 25. The Pirates will take on Fullerton at 9:00 am and Glendale at 2:00 pm at the VC Softball Complex as part of a nine-game day at the VC Softball Complex. Teams will return to the venue Saturday for another nine-game schedule.
