VC Splits Double-Header at Long Beach

The Pirate softball team split a double header at Long Beach City College Friday. Ventura dropped the first game 4-3 in walk-off fashion for the Vikings before coming back to defeat LBCC 4-1 in the nightcap. Isabel Gallegos and Aaliyah Arias each recorded four hits on the day while Courtney Terrazas had a pair of hits and two runs batted in. Kat Tafoya had a pair of hits in the opener and pitched the victory for Ventura (15-5, 3-0).

In the opener, Ventura took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and made the score 3-1 in the fourth. Long Beach plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score before walking off with a run in the seventh.

Tafoya was 2-3 in the game with an RBI and Lauren Albrent had a single and a double with a run scored. Gallegos scored a run and had a hit and a walk while Ahlyssa Guzman recorded a hit with a run scored.

Morgan Albertsen pitched into the seventh inning, scattering seven hits against the Vikings, but could not manage to get the final out from the circle.

Ventura came back to take the nightcap 4-1. VC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, and added a pair of runs in the third. The Pirates added an insurance run in the fifth frame. Long Beach tried to mount another comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but only manage one run for the final margin.

Terrazas was 1-3 in the game with a pair of RBI and two sacrifice bunts while Gallegos was 3-3, including a triple, with a walk. Arias also pounded out three hits with a walk. Kayla Garza had a double and an RBI while Ciana Garcia recorded an RBI single.

Kat Tafoya pitched the complete game for the victory.

VC next travels to East Los Angeles on Saturday March 20 for games against the Huskies and Fullerton at 12:00 and 2:00 pm, respectively.
