Pirates Top Pirates in Shutout Victory

The wind was blowing in on Saturday, helping turn the Pirates versus Pirates affair into a pitchers' duel at the VC softball Complex. The VC Pirates got the best of the Orange Coast Pirates, posting a 3-0 victory behind a 10-strikeout, five-hit performance from starting pitcher Ashlyn Flinchum. Courtney Terrazas had a two-RBI triple in the second inning to give the Pirates of the North the edge, and Ashley Perez singled and scored on an error in the fifth for he final margin.

Flinchum had four strikeouts in the first two innings, including retiring the side in the second, before Ventura got on the board in the bottom half of the second. Isabel Gallegos walked to lead things off and Isabella Ayala was hit by a pitch. Terrazas followed with a triple to clear the bases for a 2-0 lead over the Pirates from the South.

the score remained until the bottom of the fifth when the Pirates of the North scored an insurance run. With two outs, Perez and Ahlyssa Guzman had back-to-back singles, with Perez ending up at third base. Perez then came in to score on a throwing error on the catcher for the 3-0 final count.

Ventura (10-4) next hosts Los Angeles Mission College on Tuesday March 8 at 2:30 pm.
