Pirate Softball Splits Pair in Bakersfield

The VC softball team split a pair of games Saturday in Bakersfield. The Pirates easily defeated College of the Siskiyous 17-1 in the first game before falling to the host Renegades 5-0 in the nightcap. Lauren Albrent was on fire in the opener with three home runs and eight runs batted in while Jalen Barron was 4-4 with a homer and four RBI. Leanna De La Cruz also recorded four hits in the two games for Ventura (8-4).

Ventura 17, Siskiyous 1

The Pirates scored early and often against the Eagles, who traveled south from Weed, CA for the weekend games. VC plated three runs in the first and second innings before scoring another in the third. The Pirates put up a nine-spot in the fourth before scoring one more time for good measure in the fifth. Siskiyous scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In addition to Albrent's four hits, including three round-trippers, with eight RBI and Barron's four hits with a homer and four RBI, De La Cruz also recorded three hits. Courtney Terrazas was 2-2 with a pair of walks and Ciana Garcia was 1-3 with a free base. Kayla Garza Aaliyah Arias and Ashley Perez also recorded hits in the big win.

Morgan Albertsen went the distance in the five-inning runaway to pick up the victory in the circle.

Ventura 0, Bakersfield 5

The Pirate bats went silent in the nightcap as they only managed a pair of hits in the shutout loss. Garica and De La Cruz both had base hits for Ventura. Kat Tafoya took the loss in the pitcher's circle throwing a complete game.

VC begins a three-game home stand on Friday March 4 against Glendale. First pitch at the VC Softball Complex is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
