Ventura Completes Undefeated Weekend at Tournament

The VC softball team raced out to a 6-0 lead early and held off Barstow late for a 7-4 victory to complete an undefeated weekend at the Glendale Tournament. Abby Strong was 2-4 with a double and two runs batted in and Leanna De La Cruz knocked in a pair of runs with a triple and scored a run. Isabella Ayala also had an RBI triple and scored while Ciana Garcia recorded a pair of hits with a run scored. Ashlyn Flinchum struck out 10 batters in the complete-game victory for VC (3-0).

The Pirates had one score in the bottom of the first, then plated five runs in the second. Barstow countered with three runs in the third inning before Ventura scored an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. The Vikings scored one more time in the top of the fifth, but could not manage more against Flinchum.

Kat Tafoya also had an RBI single and scored a run in the game and Ashley Perez was 1-3 with a run scored. Lauren Albrent was 1-4 at the plate with two scores.

VC next travels to Santa Ana on Friday Feb. 4 to take on El Camino and the host Dons. The Pirates first home action is Thursday Feb. 10 against Antelope Valley at 2:30 pm.
