Pirate Softball Falls at Home to El Camino

The Pirate softball team dropped a home game Friday, falling to visiting El Camino 6-2. VC (11-8) was limited to four hits on the day, including a double by Jessica Mendoza. Kat Tafoya and Mendoza each had a run batted in for Ventura, who saw a seven-game winning streak come to an end. Tafoya took the loss in the pitcher's circle, allowing 10 hits while striking out six batters.

The Warriors scored a pair of runs in the first inning and broke things open with three runs in the fifth. They added another run in the top of the sixth inning before the Pirates got on the board with two score sin the bottom half of the frame.

Celeste Pacheco and Cassidy Craig opened the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back singles. Mendoza followed with an RBI double to score Pacheco and Tafoya then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Craig.

Isabel Gallegos had the only other hit for VC, a third inning single.

The Pirates begin Western State Conference North Division play on Tuesday March 10 at Santa Monica.
