Softball Scores 17 in Rout of Bakersfield

VC freshman Aleska Page was 5-5 with a triple and three RBI Tuesday afternoon as Ventura defeated visiting Bakersfield 17-8.

The Pirate softball team opened the offensive floodgates Tuesday afternoon, racing past visiting Bakersfield 17-8 in a 6-inning run-rule game at the VC Softball Complex. The Pirates scored 15 runs over the final three innings of the victory with 23 hits on the day. Aleska Page was 5-5 with a triple and three runs batted in while Courtney Terrazas hit 4-5 at the plate with a double and a triple, knocking in one run. Kat Tafoya scattered 10 hits in the game in the pitcher's circle while striking out seven batters to pick up the win.

The Renegades took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and stretched it to 3-0 after the top of the second. Ventura came back with two runs in the bottom half of the frame before taking a 5-3 advantage after four innings.  BC scored one more in the top of the fifth inning before the flood gates opened for the Pirates. They scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth, and answered four Bakersfield runs in the sixth with a seven-run frame to complete the run-rule victory.

Isabel Gallegos had four RBI in the game, belting out three hits, including a double and a triple. Cassidy Craig had four hits and batted in two runs while Lauren Saenz was 2-2, also with a pair of RBI. Kat Tafoya was 3-4 for Ventura at the plate.

Ventura next travels to Los Angeles Valley for a 10:00 am game on Saturday Feb. 29.
