Pirates Walk off Southwestern, 3-2

VC sophomore Jessica Mendoza had a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday afternoon as the Pirates defeated visiting Southwestern College 3-2 at the VC Softball Complex. After allowing two runs in the top of the first inning, Kat Tafoya settled down to pitch six scoreless innings against the Jaguars, giving up five hits while striking out four in the game. Cassidy Craig was 2-2 at th eplate with a double, two sacrifices and a run batted in for VC (3-4).

After the Jags plated a pair of runs in the first, Ventura came back with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The teams were then scoreless until the decisive final frame.

Courtney Terrazas was 1-2 with a double in the game while Isabel Gallegos also recorded an extra base hit.

The Pirates return to the diamond Tuesday Feb. 11 with a double-header at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita.
