Softball Wins At Campton in Make-Up Game

Buoyed by a five-run first inning, the Pirate softball team came home from Compton with an 11-2 six-inning victory in a make-up game rescheduled from Feb. 22. Adriana Clemons had three hits, including a double, with one run scored and one run batted in. Kaylee Neal also recorded three hits with a run scored and an RBI while Marisa Felix had a hit and a walk, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Jessica Mendoza pitched a complete game giving up seven hits and allowing two earned runs for the Pirates (21-16, 12-3).

Ventura scored five runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in the win. The Tartars plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before VC responded win a run in the second frame. The Pirates then scored three runs in the fourth inning before recording two more runs in the sixth for the mercy-rule victory.

Kali Brown had a pair of hits and scored twice for VC while Serrina Cabral also crossed the plate twice. Cassidy Craig had a hit and an RBI while Mendoza also batted in one run.

The Pirates will conclude the regular season at home on Tuesday April 23 against Santa Barbara. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm at the VC Softball Complex.
