VC Softball Drops Two Non-Conference Games

The Ventura College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games on Saturday, losing 2-1 to East Los Angeles and 12-1 to state No. 9-ranked Fullerton 12-1 in games played at East LA in Monterey Park. Kali Brown and Kayla Garcia each had a pair of hits on the day for the Pirates (18-16, 11-3).

In the first game of the day, Ventura gave up single runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to fall to th host huskies. The Pirates had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Adriana Clemons had a hit with an RBI while Brown, Serrina Cabral and Kaylee Neal all recorded hits in the game for VC.

Ventura 1, Fullerton 12

In the nightcap, Ventura could not stay with the highly-ranked Hornets, falling by a 12-1 count. Garcia had a pair of hits, including a double, with an RBI and Brown had the Pirates' other hit in the game. 

The Pirates scored a run in the bottom of the first on Brown's single, Cabral's sacrifice bunt and Garcia's single, but they could not muster much offense after that point. Fullerton had two runs in the top of the first and followed with a two-run second inning. They plated four runs in the third before crossing home four more times in the top of the sixth inning. 

The Pirates return to the diamond on Tuesday April 16 at Oxnard College. First pitch is slated for 2:30 pm.
