Pirates Win Three in Spring Tournament

The Pirate softball team completed a perfect slate at the Ventura Spring Tournament, defeating Long Beach on Saturday before posting wins against Hartnell and Victor Valley on Sunday. Marisa Felix highlighted the weekend with two home runs over the left field fence in the tournament finale against Victor Valley Sunday afternoon. VC (14-11, 6-2) edged the Vikings 2-0 on Saturday before walking off against Hartnell 6-5 on Sunday morning. Ventura closed the weekend with an 11-3 win in six innings over Victor Valley.

Ventura 2, Long Beach 0
The Pirates scored two runs in the top of the first inning and made the advantage hold up. Pitcher Jessica Mendoza threw a two-hotter against the Vikings, who were the designated home team for the contest. Cassidy Craig had a pair of hits with a run batted in while Kaylee Neal had the other RBI. Kali Brown and Felix were both 1-3 in the game.

Ventura 6, Hartnell 5
Kayla Garcia got the win in the pitcher's circle for the Pirates, who walked of fin the bottom of the seventh for the victory.

Ventura 11, Victor Valley 3
Felix highlighted the day with a pair of line-drive homers over the left field fence. She finished the day with four RBI. Neal was 23- with a double and two runs batted in while Serrina Cabral had a pair of base knocks, including a double, with one RBI. Craig totaled two hits with one RBI and Adriana Clemons also recorded a pair of hits. Mendoza pitched for the victory.

Ventura begins a six-game road swing on Wednesday March 27 with a make-up date at El Camnio College. The Pirates and Warriors are scheduled for a 3:00 pm first pitch.
