Pirate Softball Drops Three on Weekend Trip to San Diego

The Ventura College softball team traveled to San Diego for the weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision Friday at San Diego City College in eight innings before falling twice at San Diego Mesa College on Saturday, 8-0 in six innings and 8-6. Marisa Felix had three hits in the three games and Jessica Mendoza and Kayla Garcia shared pitching duties for VC (10-10, 5-1).

The Pirates opened the weekend with a hard-fought 2-1 extra inning loss to San Diego City College. Kali Brown was 2-4 on the day with a run scored and Felix also knocked out  pair of hits with a run batted in. The Knights scored once in the bottom of the fifth inning before Ventura returned the favor to tie the game in the sixth. SDCC got a walk-off winner in the bottom of the first extra frame.

Mendoza scattered eight hits and gave up the two runs, one earned in picking up the hard-luck loss.

The Pirates went without a hit in Saturday's first game, an 8-0 loss to the Olympians.

In the nightcap, Ventura pounded out 12 hits in pushing the hosts in their 8-6 loss. 

Adriana Clemons was 2-2 at the plate while Garcia was 2-3. Mendoza and Kaylee Neal also had a pair of base hits. Felix, Serrina Cabral, Cassidy Craig and Jenesa Monje all recorded one hit each in the narrow defeat. 

Ventura next travels to Moorpark on Tuesday March 19 for a 2:30 pm game.
