Ventura Continues Winning Ways

Kayla Garcia had three hits and a pair of RBI Thursday as Ventura defeated visiting Oxnard 10-2 in a five-inning run rule game at the VC Softball Complex.

The Pirate softball team continued their winning ways Thursday with a 10-2 5-inning victory over visiting Oxnard. Kayla Garcia led a balanced VC attack with three hits and two runs batted in while Jessica Mendoza was 2-2 with an RBI. The Pirates (10-7, 5-1) pounded out 15 hits on the day. Garcia and Jessica Mendoza shared duties in the circle to pick up the victory.

The Condors jumped on the board with a run in the first before VC tied the game with a run in the second. After OC took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, Ventura took control with a five-run bottom half of the frame. The Pirates walked off with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by Marisa Felix's walk-off single to score Garcia for the run-rule victory.

Felix finished the game 2-3 with a pair of runs batted in and Cassidy Craig  was 2-3 with two RBI. Kayla Garcia also recorded a pair of hits with one run batted in and Jenesa Monje was also 2-3 with an RBI. 

Ventura travels to San Diego Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16, facing San Diego City on Friday and playing two at San Diego Mesa Saturday.
