Pirates Rebound With Big Road Win

The Pirate softball team rebounded from its first Western State Conference loss of the season on Monday with a big win on the road at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo Tuesday. Kayla Garcia had three hits, including a pair of doubles,scored two runs and batted in two more to lead the Ventura to a 10-1 victory over the Cougars. Marisa Felix knocked out three singles and a double while driving in two scores and crossing the plate once and Jessica Mendoza recorded two RBI for Ventura (9-7, 4-1).

The Pirates scored one run in the top of the second inning. Serrina Cabral led of fthe frame with a double, and moved to third on Mendoza's single. Felix then came to the plate and hit an RBI single for the 1-0 Ventura lead.

In the third inning, ventura took advantage of three Cuesta errors, and they also pounded out six hits to score four runs. Kaylee Neal reached second on an error, then scored when Adriana Clemons singled, and moved to second on another error. Kayla Garcia then doubled home Clemons. Cabral followed with a single, moving all the way to third on an error as Garcia scored. Next, Mendoza grounded out to the shortstop as Cabral corssed home for a 5-0 Pirate advantage.

After Cuesta plated one run i nthe bottom half of the third inning, the Pirates scored two more in the fifth. Felix led off with a single and scored on Kali Brown's base hit. Neal singled Brown into scoring position, then Clemons had an RBI single to score Brown.

Felix doubled home Cabral in the sixth inning, and Brown and Garcia scored in the seventh with RBI by Garcia and Mendoza, respectively.

Garcia pitched a complete-game 4-hitter for the victory in the circle for VC.

Ventura returns to the diamond on Thursday March 14 at home against Oxnard. First pitch is scheuled for 2:30 pm at the VC Softball Complex.
