Pirate Softball Prominant on All-WSC List

The Ventura College Softball team was well represented on the Western State Conference North Division all-conference list voted upon by the league coaches earlier this month. Pitcher Anissa Padilla and and outfielder Arianna Rivas, both sophomores highlighted Pirates on the first team along with freshman second baseman Kaylee Neal and first-year outfielder/catcher Adriana Clemons.

Padilla and Clemons also earned All-Southern California honors.

Padilla, a first team selection a year ago, was 8-2 in WSC North games with an earned run average of 0.80. She had 65 strike-outs and seven walks in 51 innings pitched. At the plate she had a line of .515 / .610 / .848 with 17 runs batted in and 14 runs scored in 14 games played. Rivas, an honorable mention pick in 2017, hit .359 / .435 / .487 with nine RBI and 11 runs scored in 14 games.

Clemons batted .477 / .520 / .614 and batted in 16 runs. Neal, meanwhile, hit .366 / .400 / .463 with 11 runs scored and had a .906 fielding percentage from her middle-infield position.

Sophomore third baseman Celeste Ekman, freshman shortstop Sophie Dahlstedt and freshman outfielder Kayla Garcia were named second team All-WSC North while sophomore pitcher Megan Best and sophomore first baseman Brittney Banales earned honorable mention honors.

The Pirates finished the conference season with a mark of 12-2, coming in second place behind Bakersfield College. VC had an overall mark of 29-11, hosting a best-of-three playoff series for only the second time in program history.
