Two Big Innings Propel Pirates Past Santiago Canyon

The Pirate softball team used a pair of five-run innings to run past Santiago Canyon College 10-6 Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at the VC Softball Complex. Adriana Clemons was 3-4 in the game, including a triple, with three runs batted in while Anissa Padilla and Sophie Dahlstedt also recorded three hits. Padilla made the start in the circle, yielding eight hits in the game for VC (24-9, 9-2).

Ventura started off the game with a five-run bottom of the first to take control. The Hawks plated one run in the second before VC scored five more in the third inning for a 10-1 advantage. SCC scored five runs in the top of the fifth, but could get no more as the Pirates came away with the 10-6 victory.

Kayla Garcia, Celeste Ekman and Danielle Carmona all had a hit with an RBI while Kaylee Neal also reached base safely. The Pirates totaled 13 hits in the game.

VC hosts Cerritos on Monday April 16 at 3:00 pm in a make-up game before returning to Western State Conference play at home on Tuesday April 17 against Oxnard.
