VC Softball Drops Pair of Non-Conference Games at East LA

The Ventura College softball team dropped a pair of games Sunday at East Los Angeles College, falling to the host Huskies 6-5 in the opener before dropping a 7-1 decision to Fullerton College in the nightcap. Arianna Rivas totaled four hits on the day for the Pirates (21-9, 7-2) while Angelina Flores had a pair of hits, including a double, with an RBI in game one.

Ventura 5, East Los Angeles 6

The Pirates gave up a run in the bottom of the first and trailed by that one score for the remainder of the game. The Huskies had an answer every time VC scored a run, and the Pirate comeback in the top of the seventh came up one run shy.

Pitcher Anissa Padilla also led Ventura hitting 2-3, including a double, with three RBI and a run scored while Flores nocked out a single and a double with one run scored and one run batted in. Rivas was 2-4 with a run scored and Sophie Dahlstedt had a pair of hits with an RBI. Celeste Ekman also totaled two hits and Kayla Garcia walked twice, scoring two runs.

Padilla gave up six earned runs while striking out four in her six-inning outing.

Ventura 1, Fullerton 7

The Pirates were limited to five hits in the nightcap against the SoCal No. 10-ranked Hornets.  Rivas was 2-2 with a pair of doubles and an RBI for VC while Megan Best took to the pitchers circle.

Ventura continues Western State Conference North Division play on Tuesday April 10 at home against Santa Barbara. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm in the make-up game from a March 22 rainout.
