Ventura Mercies Visiting Compton in Six Innings

The VC softball team scored nine runs in the final two innings to bring home a 12-4 walk-off mercy rule victory over visiting Compton Friday at the VC Softball Complex. Angelina Flores led the Pirates (21-7, 7-2) at the plate with three doubles and three runs batted in. Arianna Rivas, Adriana Clemons and Kayla Garcia also recorded three hits each in the game. Megan Best scattered six hits and struck out seven in the pitcher's circle in recording the win.

Garcia had a double and a triple with three RBI at the plate while Clemons had a triple among her three hits with one RBI. Rivas also knocked in three runs with her three hits. Brittney Banales was 2-3 at the dish with a double and an RBI while Kaylee Neal also recorded a pair of hits.

The Tartars took an early lead with a run in the top of the second inning. VC came back wit three runs in the third, then put the game away with a four-run fifth  and a five-run sixth. Compton scored three runs in the top of the sixth, but the Pirates walked off with the 12-4 win.

VC will make up rain-outs from March 10 with games against East Los Angeles and Fullerton in Monterey Park on Sunday April 8. The Pirates resume Western State Conference play on Tuesday April 10 against Santa Barbara at home.
