The Pirate softball team hosted Bakersfield on Tuesday afternoon in a first-place showdown. Unfortunately for VC, their defense committed four errors and gave up one big inning, yielding four unearned runs, in their 5-0 loss to the Renegades. Ventura's offense also had trouble getting traction, managing four hits over seven innings. Kaylee Neal went 2-3 in the game to lead the Pirates (19-7, 6-2) at the plate.

Bakersfield took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Pirates gave up four unearned runs to BC in the third inning.

Ventura totaled four hits on the day. Neal totaled a pair of safeties for VC while Celeste Ekman and Adriana Clemons each were 1-3 on the day.

The Pirates have little time to regroup as they travel to Allan Hancock College on Thursday April 5 for another big conference showdown. First pitch against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
