Pirates Pound Out 34 Runs in Two Games Friday

The VC softball team exploded for 34 runs in two games Friday at the Mt. San Jacinto College President's Day Tournament. VC (8-3) defeated San Diego City 17-6 in the morning game before routing East Los Angeles 17-3 in the afternoon tilt. Angelina Flores knocked out six hits on the day with six runs scored and three RBI while Kayla Garcia, Samantha Gonzalez and Adriana Clemons all had four hits each in the two games. Anissa Padilla had a save and a complete game victory in the pitcher's circle for the Pirates (8-3).

Ventura 17, San Diego City 6

The Pirates scored three runs in the first inning eight in the second, and five in the third to claim the five-inning contest. 10 different players recorded a hit in the game, led by Flores, who was 3-4 wit three runs scored. Garcia went 2-3 with three runs scored and two runs batted in while Gonzalez also had a pair of hits with three runs scored and two RBI. Kaylee Neal was 2-3 with a couple of runs and an RBI and Clemons also produced a pair of hits with a run and a run batted in.  Megan Best pitched four innings, striking out  three and allowing six runs, four earned, before Padilla came in to pitch a perfect fifth for the save.

Ventura 17, East Los Angeles 3

Ventura exploded on offense early in the game, scoring five, six and five runs in each of the first three innings, respectively. Brittney Banales had the big game, going 2-4 with a home run, scoring four runs and knocking in three more. Flores was 3-4 at the dish with three runs scored and three RBI and Arianna Rivas was 2-2 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Clemons recorded a pair of hits, scoring twice with two RBI while Garcia also had two hits with three runs scored and an RBI.  Padilla threw a complete game, striking out two while scattering six hits and three runs over the five innings.

The Pirates wrap up the tournament on Saturday Feb. 17 with games against Los Angeles Valley at 9:30 am and Imperial Valley at 2:30 pm.
