Pirates Claim Two Victories to Close Glendale Tourney

The Ventura College softball team closed a successful opening weekend with a pair of close victories at the Dave Wilder Memorial Tournament at Glendale College Saturday. In the first game of the day, VC (3-1) defeated Long Beach 2-1 before besting Mt. San Jacinto 2-0 in their tournament finale. Megan Best pitched both victories with a combined 12 strikeouts while Sophie Dahlstedt was 4-6 with three RBI on the day for the Pirates.

Ventura 2, Long Beach 1

Dahlstedt was 1-2 with two runs batted in while Kaylee Neal and Celeste Ekman each recorded two hits. Best pitched a two-hitter for the six-inning win, striking out six Vikings along the way. Best also was 1-2 at the plate for Ventura.

Ventura 2, Mt. San Jacinto 0

Best struck out six and scattered five hits in the shutout victory. Dahlstedt was 3-4 at the plate with an RBI while Arianna Rivas was 2-3 while knocking in one run. Ekman and Anissa Padilla also totaled two hits each in the game.

Ventura travels to Chaffey College on Wednesday Jan. 31 before hosting Pasadena Friday Feb. 2 at 1:00 pm in their home opener.
