Softball Splits Opening Day at Glendale Tourney

The Ventura College softball team opened up the 2018 season with a split of a pair of games at the Dave Wilder Memorial Tournament at Glendale College on Friday. VC (1-1) defeated Cerro Coso in the opener, 10-2 in five innings before falling 3-1 to San Bernardino Valley in the nightcap.

Danielle Carmona led the Pirates with a 3-3 day at the plate, including a double, with four runs batted in and three runs scored. Kaylee Neal had a pair of hits with two RBI and Kayla Garcia and Arianna Rivas also produced two hits each. Adriana Clemons hit a 3-runhone run in the victory. Anissa Padilla pitched three no-hit innings with seven strikeouts to pick up the win and Megan Best finished the game in the circle.

Ventura 1, San Bernardino Valley 3

 In the nightcap, the Pirates fell to the Wolverines 3-1 in seven innings. Sophie Dahlstedt was 3-4 with a double and an RBI and Carmona also recorded three hits. Rivas collected a pair of base hits.

The Pirates continue play at the Glendale Tournament Saturday Jan. 27 with games against Long Beach at 1:00 pm and Mt.San Jacinto at 3:00 pm.
