Pirate pitcher Anissa Padilla gave up two hits over five innings as the VC softball team defeated visiting Santa Barbara 10-2 Thursday afternoon. Celeste Ekman had three hits and three RBI to pace the Ventura offense and Julianne Abeloe was 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.
The Vaqueros got on the board first with a run in the top of the second before the Pirates (10-6, 4-3) answered with four runs in the bottom half of the frame. SBCC plated another score in the top of the fourth before VC ended the game early with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Padilla and Alyssa Frutos each scored two runs in the effort for Ventura.
The Pirates return to the field Tuesday March 14, hosting Cuesta in a double header at the VC Softball Complex. Game times are scheduled for 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm against the Cougars.
