Pirate Softball WIns Big in San Diego

Playing two games at two different schools on Saturday, the Ventura College softball team produced two big wins.  The Pirates defeated San Diego City College 11-1 in six innings in game one of the day before traveling the eight miles to San Diego Mesa College, defeating the Olympians 19-1. Julianne Abeloe had seven hits on the day while Brittany Perez and Celeste Ekman totaled five. Anissa Padilla picked up two wins in the pitcher's circle for VC (9-4, 2-1). 

Ventura 11, San Diego City 1
The Pirates defeated the Knights in a six-inning mercy rule decision, 11-1. VC scored one run in the top of the first inning and SDCC followed with a run in the bottom half. Ventura the scored two in the third inning and another in the fifth before breaking the game open with a seven-run sixth.

VC totaled 17 hits in the game. Perez was 4-4 in the game with two doubles, a home run and six runs batted in and Abeloe had three hits with a double and a pair of RBI. Julianna Andrade went 3-4 with a double and an RBI and Ekman had a pair of hits, including a double.  

Padilla picked up the victory in the circle, allowing two hits in the game.

Ventura 19, San Diego Mesa 1
Ventura won the second game of the day 19-1 at San Diego Mesa. VC started off with a 4-0 lead after the top of the first, and the Olympians scored one run in the bottom of the frame. VC then broke the game open with nine runs in the third inning and another five scores in the fourth.

Abeloe knocked out four hits with a double and Padilla was 3-3 with a triple and four RBI. Ekman had three hits with a double and three RBI while Justine De La Rosa had a pair of base hits, including a double, with three runs batted in. Perez had a double and two RBI, and scored four runs in the game. Andrade had a hit with three RBI.

Padilla allowed three hits over four innings for the win, and Megan Best came in and pitched a scoreless fifth.

The Pirates continue Western State Conference North Division play on Tuesday March 7 with a double header at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.
