Big First Inning Propels Softball to Win Over Chaffey

Julianne Abeloe went 3-4 with a home run and two RBI and Celeste Ekman was 2-3 with a triple, knocking in three runs as the Ventura College softball team defeated Chaffey 10-6 Saturday evening in Glendale.  Megan Best picked up the victory as the starting pitcher and Anissa Padilla came on in relief to pick up the save for VC (2-0).

Ventura picked up five runs in the top of the first inning and tacked on another score in the second before the Panthers came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame. The Pirates countered with two runs in the third and Chaffey matched before VC plated one run in the fourth and fifth innings.

Christina Hart smacked two hits, including a double and Padilla was 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Brittany Perez had a solo home run in the game.

Ventura travels to El Camino on Tuesday Jan. 31 and Cerritos on Thursday Feb. 2 before opening their home schedule on Friday February 10 at 2:30 pm against Antelope Valley.
