VC Softball Falls in Opener of So Cal Regional Playoffs

After winning their wild card qualifier game in dramatic fashion to extend their winning streak to 10 games, the Ventura College softball team was unable to maintain their momentum facing No. 2 ranked Santiago Canyon fell 7-0. While the Pirates offense was unable to gain any traction throughout the game Julia Garcia did pick up a single for Ventura. Garcia was 1-1 on the day reaching base via walk in her other plate appearances.

Olivia Hernandez fresh off her stellar performance in the qualifier round was unable to hold down a potent Santiago Canyon attack as they managed 14 hits and one home run off the Pirate pitcher. Ventura was unable to match the SCC attack being held hitless till Garcia's single in the seventh inning.

VC now trails in the best of three series, 1-0, but they will return to the field on Sun. May 8 for a 1:00 pm contest. The Pirates are now in elimination mode needing to win the final two games of the series to advance to the second round of the Southern California Playoffs. If Ventura wins the first game of the day they will force a winner take all game three which will start 30 minutes following the completion of the first game.
