As the Ventura College softball team battles for a chance to make the State regional playoffs they claimed a key 14-0 win over Los Angeles Pierce. Olivia Hernandez started and went four innings while allowing one hit. Julianne Abeloe went 4-4 with a double and a triple with two RBI. Justine De La Rosa went 2-4 with a home run and three RBI while pitching one scoreless inning of relief.

Ventura (24-13, 11-5) used an explosive offensive attack to jump on the Brahmas early and dominant pitching to hold them off. Scoring eight runs in the first inning Ventura put away the game early scoring in each of the four innings they came to bat. VC scored multiple runs in three of their four turns at the plate. On the day the Pirate offense knocked out ten hits to plate their 14 runs.

In addition to the offensive performances of Abeloe and De La Rosa, three other Pirate hitters drove in runs. Lindsey Dietz had one RBI, Julie Garcia collected one hit and drove in a run with Marina Coffin adding a hit and an RBI to the day.

The win sets up a key final two games for the Pirate softball team as they will host first place Cuesta on Tuesday Apr. 26 for an important Western state Conference match up. The first game is set for a 1:00 pm start time.
