On Final Day of Spring Games Pirates Split

The Ventura College softball team split their final two games of the VC spring games. In the opener of the day Ventura used a potent offense for a 10-4 win over Porterville. Then in the final game of the weekend the Pirates dropped a 5-4 decision to College of the Canyons. Julianne Abeloe had six hits and three doubles on the day while Lindsey Dietz homered twice for Ventura.

Ventura pounded out ten hits en route to a dominant win over Porterville, including six extra base hits. VC had three doubles, a triple and two home runs in the win. Dietz blasted both of her home runs on the day against PC, while Abeloe was 2-4 with a double and a triple. Dietz drove in three runs to top the Pirate attack while Julia Garcia added a pair of RBI as did Justine De La Rosa

Olivia Hernandez started for Ventura going two innings before giving way to De La Rosa for the last three innings. 

Canyons 5 Ventura 4

Ventura went back to Hernandez for their final game of the weekend and she gave VC every opportunity to pick up their fourth win, but the Pirates offense came up just short. Abeloe was 4-4 in the game with two doubles and two stolen bases to top the Pirate offensive attack. Ventura had just seven hits in the game with Garcia adding one hit and two RBI for VC. Hernandez added two hits for Ventura to go with her work in the circle.

Ventura is now 17-12 on the year and 4-4 in Western State Conference North play. VC travels north to Santa Maria on Tuesday Apr. 5 for a doubleheader against Allan Hancock. The first game is set for 1:00 pm with the second game tentatively set for 3:00 pm.
