The Ventura College softball team took to the road for the first time in nearly a month and came home with a 5-4 win over Long Beach City. Olivia Hernandez went the distance in the circle for the win. Lindsey Dietz collected two of the five hits on the day for the Pirates. Dietz had a double and picked up a stolen base.

Ventura (12-7, 2-0) needed to hold on after scoring five runs in the top of the first inning to pick up their fourth straight win. VC had just five hits on the day, but they were very effective with those hits to produce their five total runs. The Pirates allowed three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but just one run over the final six frames to pick up the win.

Mariah Gamboa, Julia Garcia and Farris Burke collected the other three Pirate hits. Each of the three drove in a run for VC in the win.

Ventura will take on cross county rival Moorpark on Tuesday Mar. 22 for a doubleheader in Western State Conference North play. The first game will begin at 1:00 pm with the second game currently slated for a 3:00 pm start time. They will then travel north to Santa Barbara City for a 2:30 pm game on Thursday Mar. 24.
