Following an extended layoff the Ventura College softball team opened Western State Conference play against the defending champion Allan Hancock College. VC pulled out a 7-6 win in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning. Julia Garcia was 2-3 with a triple and two rbi, while Lindsey Dietz added a triple and one rbi. Ventura capitalized on four Hancock errors.

Ventura (9-7, 1-0) stormed out to a big lead against the Bulldogs with three runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning. AHC though battled back picking their way back into the game over the final five frames to tie the score at 6-6 after the top of the seventh inning. The Pirates were not to be denied the win as they rallied with one run in the bottom half to hand the Bulldogs a loss in the opener of WSC play.

Ventura had a total of four hits in the game to Allan Hancock's eight, but the Pirates were opportunistic on the Bulldogs miscues in the field. Olivia Hernandez started in the circle for Ventura and picked up the win.

VC will be back at home on Monday Mar. 14 for a 2:30 pm game against El Camino College. Then on Thursday Mar. 17 they will play host to Oxnard College at 2:30 in another WSC game.
