Pirates Softball Slugs Their Way to a Pair of Wins

On the final day of the Mt. San Jacinto tournament, the Pirates softball team slugged their way to a pair of victories. Ventura defeated Barstow 17-12 in game one, then knocked off Napa 16-1 in four innings in their second game. Julia Garcia collected three hits and drove in seven runs over the two games. Olivia Hernandez picked up both wins for Ventura. Gabriella Ramos had four hits and six RBI's on the day.

Ventura knocked out 13 hits in their win. After falling behind 7-2 through two innings the Pirates offense went off in the third inning, VC plated 13 runs in the inning and then added two more in the fifth inning while Barstow rallied with five in the bottom of the sixth it wasn't enough. Hernandez came on in the second inning and allowed the Pirates to rally back for the victory as she claimed the win. Julianne Abeloe knocked out two hits with an RBI. Garcia had one hit and two RBI's. Claira Lozano had one hit and two RBI's, as well. Ramos was the Pirates top hitter in the victory going 4-4 with a triple and knocking in six runs.

Ventura needed just four innings to score 16 runs in their dominant win over Napa. VC plated three runs in the first, five in the second, five in the third and three more in the fourth inning. The Pirates needed just six hits to plate the 16 runs. Garcia added two more hits to her day with a triple and five RBI's. Farris Burke was 1-1 with a triple and three RBI's.

Ventura is now 6-5 on the season with their 4-0 weekend at the Mt. San Jacinto tournament. VC will be off until Thursday Feb. 18 when they will travel to LA Mission for a 2:30 pm game.
