Traveling to Cerritos the Ventura College softball team dropped a close one run decision to the Falcons of Cerritos 5-4. Ventura picked up eight hits and slugged a pair of home runs with Julianne Abeloe and Farris Burke each going deep for the Pirates. Abeloe was 3-4 in the game and Justine De La Rosa added a triple.

Following a long trip to Bakersfield for their last game the Pirates (2-4) looked to rebound from a poor performance by taking down the Falcons. VC struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning with Mariah Gamboa and Burke each driving in a run. VC though quickly relinquished the advantage as the Falcons plated three in the bottom half of the inning. Cerritos extended the deficit to 5-2 with a pair in the fourth. VC got back on the board with Abeloe's fifth inning solo home run and got to within one run with one out left in the game after Burke drove her solot shot. The Pirates though were unable to over the deficit and fell.

Olivia Hernandez started in the circle for VC giving up just four hits, but allowing five runs to Cerritos. The loss was the second of the season for Hernandez.

Ventura will host their home opener on Tueday Feb. 9 against Victory Valley at 2:30 pm.
